The Tissue Archive Service (TAS) was established within the Department of Pathology at THE Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in June 1998 to serve as the custodian of diagnostic archival formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissues and corresponding hematoxylin and eosin stained slides. Since its creation, specimens have been organized and policies have been instituted for the use of diagnostic archival tissues in research, clinical trials, case study and teaching primarily by OSU investigators/physicians/residents and fellows as well as routine requests for copies of the diagnostic slides by attorneys. Research requests require IRB approval. The TAS collection of searchable cases dates back to January 1968. The estimated total number of diagnostic tissue blocks in this collection is 11,216,870; the estimated total number of diagnostic slides is 16,825,305.
