The Virtual Microscopy Lab (VML) provides a variety of services to researchers and their collaborators locally and around the world to ensure research and education are conducted faster, better, and at lower costs. The VML provides affordable, high-quality, high-quality digital imaging of tissue sections using the Aperio Scanscope XT scanner by Leica. Slides can be scanned at 5X, 20X, and 40X with the ability to scan standard 1" x 3" slides as well as 2" x 3" slides. A single slide takes about 6 minutes to scan. Scanned image files are in the svs format but can be converted to other formats if needed. Scanned image file size varies but 250 MB is average. Image files can be viewed using Aperio's ImageScope software or ePathViewer for tablets. Image files hosted on the OSUWMC server can be accessed worldwide using Aperio's eSlide Manager web application. Researchers can view, annotate, and analyze slide images, import and export statistical data, and access pathology reports. eSlide Manager's data elements are fully customizable to fit needed research specifications.
