The Medicinal Chemistry Shared Resource (MCSR) provides medicinal chemistry support to investigators at the OSUCCC – James and to other academic and commercial institutions. It integrates the expertise of multiple disciplines, including synthetic and process chemistry, instrumental analysis and molecular pharmacology.
The MCSR will consult with OSUCCC – James investigators regarding the chemical stability, commercial sources and purity of chemical agents available from commercial sources. It also will conduct nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry and mass spectrometric analyses when the identity and/or purity of a chemical agent is in question. For pharmaceutical agents obtained in tablet form, the MCSR will help with extraction and purification to obtain the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) with high purity.
The MCSR will provide custom synthesis of agents that are not available from commercial sources. Chemists of the MCSR will consult with interested investigators regarding the synthetic feasibility of the requested agents, and will carry out the synthesis if deemed feasible.
The MCSR provides strategies to help OSUCCC – James investigators conduct structural optimization of existing lead agents.
