X-Ray Crystallography Facility

Summary:

Single crystal X-Ray diffraction is a leading technique for the determination of molecular and crystal structures and for obtaining the absolute configuration of molecules. This laboratory allows researchers to do small molecule single crystal structure determinations, where the metrical details of a molecule are ascertained (such as, bond lengths, bond angles, and conformation) along with the arrangement of the molecules within the solid state. Students with crystallographic experience can collect diffraction data and/or solve and refine their own structures. Otherwise, the complete structure analysis is done by the staff crystallographer

    Instruments

    • Bruker D8 Venture Diffractometer – Ga MetalJet (Coming Soon - May 2021!) ( X-ray source )

      (Coming Soon May 2021!) Instrument is equipped with a High-intensity Gallium MetalJet X-ray source and a Photon III detector as well as an Oxford Cryosystems Cryostream for variable temperature data collection from 90-500 K.

    • Bruker D8 Venture DUO ( Goniometer )

      Dual source instrument equipped with a TRIUMPH monochromated Moly sealed tube and a Copper IµS. System features a Kappa goniometer and a Photon II detector as well as an Oxford Cryosystems Cryostream for variable temperature data collection from 90-400 K.

    • Nonius Kappa APEX-II ( Charge-coupled device detector )

      Instrument is equipped with a Moly sealed tube and an Apex-II CCD detector as well as an Oxford Cryosystems Cryostream for variable temperature data collection from 90-400 K.

    • Rigaku Compact Home Source ( X-ray source )

      Instrument is currently located on the BioSide of campus. It is equipped with a Copper MicroMax 003f X-ray generator and PILATUS R200K Hybrid Pixel Array Detector as well as an Oxford Cryosystems Cobra for variable temperature data collection from 90-400 K.
