Resource Description
-
Access to TCC specimens and data can be requested via REDCap.
Types of specimen collected:
Plasma, serum and DNA from blood
Snap frozen tissue
Blood is collected in conjunction with clinically indicated blood draws occurring at The James and is not collected at pre-determined time points.
Tissue obtained is remnant tissue from surgical procedures. Frozen tissue is not available to the TCC from all TCC-consented patients due to factors such as sample size and quality. Provision of remnant surgical tissue to the TCC is prioritized after other The Ohio State University protocols. Prior to distribution, all tissue will undergo pathology QC review — results of review will impact specimen availability.
Types of data collected:
Clinical and demographic data captured in discrete fields from the electronic medical record and James Cancer Registry.
Project timelines are subject to project size and complexity. Please expect, at minimum, a four-week turnaround time from initial project submission to completion. Large or complex projects, particularly those that involve tissue and/or data abstraction, will take longer. Timelines evaluated on a case by case basis. All requests are reviewed by the TCC Research Committee and applicable disease group leader(s). The committee is looking for scientific excellence, alignment with institutional goals, potential overlap with ongoing projects, number and type of specimens/data being requested and impact of research project.
